Winner of the 2013 Kathleen Ferrier Award, baritone Gareth Brynmor John (“Gareth Brynmor John’s clarity, warmth and even spread held us gripped from the beginning” – The Times) studied at the Royal Academy of Music where, in his final year, he won the Royal Academy of Music Patrons’ Award. He and William Vann (“immaculate, imaginative pianism” – Musical Opinion) – recorded this recital for Champs Hill Records in 2018. An enthralling collection of songs for and about children, we travel through a magic world of fairy tales, adventures, nursery rhymes and lullabies. The culmination of the programme is Richard Rodney Bennett’s stunning Songs before Sleep, a decidedly grown-up set of musings on the world of children.
