The second edition of the Chelsea History Festival was supposed to be a huge occasion, but there is lots going on nevertheless, and I’m involved in two things on Saturday, both related to Beethoven, whose 250th anniversary has been rather overshadowed this year:

4pm recital – Beethoven 250th birthday song recital with Nick Pritchard (tenor). This is a LIVE EVENT! It will be in the car park of the National Army Museum in Chelsea, and it looks like it won’t be raining! I’ll be on a keyboard and Nick and I will perform a selection of songs by Beethoven, Haydn and Schubert, including Beethoven’s incredible song cycle An die ferne Geliebte. Admission is free! You just have to reserve entry to the museum, following the link.

6pm talk – Beethoven: a history. I’ll be chairing a discussion with Laura Tunbridge and Ruth Padel, who have both recently brought out books on Beethoven, at the National Army Museum. It will be a fascinating evening. You can come along and watch – and participate with questions – in person for £15, or watch online.
